# Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite for product videos: what xAI's docs promise

> For founders and product marketers weighing xAI's new video model: what Lite's lip-synced clips and per-second prices are good for in a product video, and why the screens still need filming. Not tested in uscale.

## Cheap seconds, upscaled pixels

On [xAI's model page for Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite](https://docs.x.ai/developers/models/grok-imagine-video-1.5-lite), a second of video costs $0.02 at 480p and $0.14 at 1080p. But [xAI's video generation guide](https://docs.x.ai/developers/model-capabilities/video/generation) says that 1080p is 720p, upscaled.

That is fine for a sunset. A product video depends on small text a viewer has to read: a menu label, a price in a table, a line of code. If those blur, the shot loses its point.

So which beats of a product video is a cheap, upscaled clip actually for, and which ones still have to come from the product?

## What Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite means for product videos

> **Lite suits a talking line or a moving still, not your interface: its top resolution is upscaled, and a prompt draws an app that isn't yours.**

From xAI's docs, 2026-10-10 (model labelled 'New', no release date). uscale hasn't tested it.

Test each storyboard beat: if the viewer must read the product there, film it.

## What Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite makes: speech, stills in motion, 15-second clips

Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite turns a prompt or a single image into a clip of up to 15 seconds, with sound on unless you switch it off. Hold each beat of your storyboard against this sheet, read from [xAI's video generation guide](https://docs.x.ai/developers/model-capabilities/video/generation) and model pages on 2026-10-10.

| What you'd check | What the docs say |
|---|---|
| Inputs | Text or an image; output is video |
| Length | Up to 15 seconds |
| Resolution | Up to 1080p claimed |
| Audio | On by default, lip-synced speech; `generate_audio=False` gives silence |
| Text-to-video | Makes a frame from the prompt, then animates it; the frame isn't returned |
| Preset voices (reference-to-video) | Documented for the full 1.5, not Lite |
| Aspect ratios | Vercel AI Gateway lists seven, including 16:9 and 9:16; xAI's pages read here don't state them |
| Camera control | Not stated |
| Real-interface fidelity | Not stated |

For builders, the API is asynchronous: you POST, then poll for the video URL. It runs in us-east-1 and us-west-2, supports Batch and allows 10 requests a second. fal offers text-to-video and image-to-video as separate endpoints.

Two beats fit this sheet, both hypothetical. One is a 15-second spoken intro for a SaaS launch video. The other is an animated hero still for a developer tool's announcement. The filled rows tell you what the model will make; the blank rows are the beats you film.

## What a second of Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite costs

Lite is priced to be the cheap pass. As of 2026-10-10, [xAI's model page for grok-imagine-video-1.5-lite](https://docs.x.ai/developers/models/grok-imagine-video-1.5-lite) lists $0.02 a second at 480p, $0.03 at 720p and $0.14 at 1080p, plus $0.01 for each image input. [xAI's video generation guide](https://docs.x.ai/developers/model-capabilities/video/generation) recommends Lite for simple videos because it has the lowest price per second.

![Grok Imagine video models: price per second of output (xAI docs, 2026-10-10): 1.5 Lite, 480p $0.02/sec, 1.5 Lite, 720p $0.03/sec, 1.5 Lite, 1080p (upscaled) $0.14/sec, grok-imagine-video, 720p $0.07/sec, 1.5, 720p $0.14/sec, 1.5, 1080p (native) $0.25/sec](https://uscale.ai/blog-media/grok-imagine-video-1-5-lite-product-videos/chart-grok-imagine-video-models-price-per-seco-1200x520.svg "Sources: xAI Docs / grok-imagine-video-1.5-lite model page; xAI Docs / grok-imagine-video model page; xAI Docs / grok-imagine-video-1.5 model page")

Your budget comes from the comparison. On 2026-10-10, the [full grok-imagine-video-1.5](https://docs.x.ai/developers/models/grok-imagine-video-1.5) cost $0.08, $0.14 and $0.25 a second at the same three resolutions. The [older grok-imagine-video](https://docs.x.ai/developers/models/grok-imagine-video) cost $0.05 at 480p and $0.07 at 720p. Lite at 1080p costs the same per second as the full model at 720p. Lite's big price jump is the last step, from 720p to 1080p. Below 1080p, Lite is cheaper than both.

So price your drafts at the lowest resolution and pay for the top one only on the take you ship. Retakes of a short spoken line cost far less at 480p than at 1080p.

On 2026-10-10, [OpenRouter's Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite listing](https://openrouter.ai/x-ai/grok-imagine-video-1.5-lite) listed Lite from $0.02 a second at 480p to $0.14 at 1080p, plus $0.01 per image input. After that, fal charges per use.

## Can't Lite just generate the product screens too?

It is a fair hope: at $0.03 a second for 720p, why not prompt the dashboard too and skip filming? For a passing mood shot, a generated screen may do.

For the screens that carry the story, xAI's own docs point the other way. Lite's 1080p is 720p upscaled, while the full Grok Imagine Video 1.5 renders 1080p natively. Upscaling adds pixels, not detail. Product beats depend on detail: small labels, prices, a line of code. OpenRouter describes Lite as distilled from 1.5, giving up some quality for speed and price. It also lists a release date of Oct 6, 2026, which xAI hasn't confirmed.

A text-to-video request on Lite also starts from a frame it makes from your prompt, so any interface it draws is a picture of an app, not your app. The xAI pages read for this post don't state camera control or fidelity to a real interface, so we claim neither.

![The real dashboard filmed from the live app](https://uscale.ai/blog-media/grok-imagine-video-1-5-lite-product-videos/compute-exchange-dolly-2_0s-1280x720.jpg "The real dashboard filmed from the live app: listing cards and prices a viewer has to be able to read.")

So the beats where a viewer must read the product (a dashboard, a setting, an export) belong to footage of the real product. Lite can open the video, but only your app can show how your app works.

## How to use Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite in a product video storyboard

Open your next storyboard in a doc and give every beat one of two labels. That split is the method.

**Mark each beat "generate" or "film".** One question decides it: does the viewer need to read your product here? If yes, film it. You're done when every line in the doc has a label.

**Generate the talking line, if your video has one.** xAI documents Lite as text- or image-to-video with lip-synced speech, up to 15 seconds ([xAI's Imagine overview](https://docs.x.ai/developers/model-capabilities/imagine)). Say you're launching a developer tool. A 15-second spoken opener fits that limit, as long as it's made from a still of someone who agreed to it. You're done when the clip says your line and nothing more.

**Animate a still for the teaser.** Say a SaaS launch has a hero image. Lite can set it in motion as an opening shot. If the music comes later, pass generate_audio=False to get a silent clip ([xAI's video generation guide](https://docs.x.ai/developers/model-capabilities/video/generation)). You're done when you have one moving shot that matches your launch page.

**Film every beat that shows the interface.** The free route is the screen recorder you already have, with the script in a doc. Or use uscale, which films the real product from your website or web app, sharp and never cropped; from a GitHub repo, its director plans a film even before there is a live site. It writes a storyboard with every narration line for your approval and adds voice, captions and music. For more, see the [AI product video generator](https://uscale.ai/use-cases/ai-product-video-generator). If you start from a repo, see the page for [developer tools](https://uscale.ai/industries/software-products/developer-tools). On [uscale's pricing](https://uscale.ai/pricing), a cinematic cut, which adds AI film shots, costs 23 credits. A founder avatar film, a presenter speaking your approved lines, costs 33 credits (1 + 30 + 2).

Success looks like this: a generated line may open your launch video, and every screen a buyer reads comes from your real product.

## Cheap seconds, real screens

Two cents a second buys a clip, not a readable screen. Lite's 1080p starts life as 720p, and any interface it draws is a picture of an app, not yours. So spend it on the spoken opening line or the product still that starts to move, and film every screen from the product.

To script that line, read [how to make an explainer video](https://uscale.ai/blog/how-to-make-an-explainer-video). To see a cinematic cut beside a real walkthrough, browse the [uscale examples](https://uscale.ai/examples). Your first video is free.

This post will be updated if uscale adds the model, xAI ships a new version, the price changes or xAI confirms a release date. Let the model talk, and let the product show itself.

## Questions

### What is Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite?

Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite is the video model in xAI's docs with the lowest price per second. It turns a text prompt or a single image into a clip of up to 15 seconds with lip-synced speech, at up to 1080p upscaled from 720p, from $0.02 a second. OpenRouter describes it as distilled from Grok Imagine Video 1.5, trading some quality for speed and price.

### How much does Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite cost per second?

As of 2026-10-10, xAI's model page prices Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite at $0.02 a second at 480p, $0.03 at 720p and $0.14 at 1080p, plus $0.01 for each image input. The full Grok Imagine Video 1.5 costs $0.08, $0.14 and $0.25 a second at the same resolutions. OpenRouter lists the same range, from $0.02 at 480p to $0.14 at 1080p.

### Is Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite's 1080p native or upscaled?

Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite's 1080p is upscaled. xAI's video generation guide says Lite produces 1080p for text-to-video and image-to-video by upscaling 720p, while the full Grok Imagine Video 1.5 renders 1080p natively. For product videos that matters: upscaling adds pixels, not detail, so small labels, prices and code may not sharpen. Drafting at 480p or 720p and paying $0.14 a second for 1080p only on the final take keeps costs down.

### Can Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite show my real app's interface?

xAI's docs don't say it can. On Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite, a text-to-video request first generates a frame from the prompt and then animates it, so any interface in the clip is a picture of an app, not your app. The docs don't state fidelity to a real interface or camera control. For screens a viewer must read, such as a dashboard, a setting or an export, film the real product.

### Is Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite in uscale, and what does a uscale video cost?

No: uscale hasn't added or tested Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite. A uscale video films your real product from your website or web app; from a GitHub repo, its director reads the repository and plans a film, even before there is a live site. Your first video is free. After that, credits are bought once with no subscription. According to uscale's pricing page, a product walkthrough is about 10 credits, a cinematic cut 23 credits and a founder avatar film 33 credits, and the Starter pack is $49 for 50 credits.
